Atlantic Aviation Group 1-13 Dromoland Castle Holdings 0-16
We opened our 2016 interfirm hurling campaign with an exciting draw against Dromoland Holdings last night in the wet underfoot conditions in Newmarket on Fergus.
Tom O’Gorman opened the scoring for AAG in an early period of dominance in which we should have scored more with the amount of possession we had. Dromoland came back strong in the second quarter and pushed into the lead with some long range frees and clinical scoring.
Gavin White, John Comican and Alan Mullready tacked on some fine scores before Shane Fitz produced a fine save in goals to keep us within touching distance at the break trailing Dromoland by 3 at half time.
The 2nd half was more of the same as we had a lot of possession but could not find our range. Some resilient defending from Seamus Kinnane, Tadhg Keogh and Richard Dorgan was making life very difficult for the Dromoland forwards and kept us in the game.
Eoin McMahon sprung to life in early in the 2nd half with a point from a tight angle followed by a John Cormican free and then a fantastic goal from Eoin who pulled on a loose ball 1st time to hammer the ball home to the bottom corner to put us 2 points clear with 10 minutes remaining.
Dromoland rallied again and with some long range frees to level the game with only minutes left on the clock. John Cormican completed the scoring for us with a free from 45 yards which was followed soon after by a score from Dromoland to tie the game and share the spoils.
Well done to all the lads who played, the management team and thanks to the supporters who came to the game. The next game against Zimmer is due to be in 2 weeks time. Come along and support the lads as we go in search of a county title.
